The Director of Raw Materials will act as both an innovation lead and owner of the fabric process and commercialization. You will ensure our designers are armed with the highest quality functional and performance fabrics for them to design into. This will include creating our own proprietary materials, working with our mills to maintain accurate libraries of fabric reference and development in tandem with creating and standardizing our fabric quality and compliance requirements – implement a proper process for creating our own materials, testing and commercializing the best functional material in the market.


  • Lead material innovation process while working closely with the design, development, and production teams
  • Manage, active and innovative OV fabric library maintaining all relevant information (mill, material, testing, costing)
  • Create, maintain, and coordinate a system for tracking standards and lab tests.  Analyze the outputs of this process to ensure materials/fabrics meet performance and quality standards (development and bulk)
  • Develop key performance indicators and vendor scorecards to measure the effectiveness of the material/fabric testing process
  • Develop and maintain a professional environment with mills as well as finished good suppliers when necessary
  • Collaborate with merchandising, design, development, production and quality teams to understand and achieve cost targets
  • Coordinate the process of ensuring proper documentation is obtained for exclusive and/or proprietary materials/fabrics
  • Select mills and/or fabrics based on consideration of quality, service, cost, and needs of the organization
  • Remain current with the latest materials and technology in the marketplace
  • Assist in the creation and management departmental operating and budgets
  • Coordinate the resolution of any deviations to development and production cycles based on material/fabrics challenges
  • Ensure consideration to environmental impacts in the selection of materials and vendors  
  • Domestic and international travel as needed



  • 6 + years material development, innovation in performance athletic wear
  • Technical material education, knowledge
  • Experience developing proprietary materials
  • Expert understanding of fibers, fabric constructions and print processes
  • Knowledge of sustainability in fabric development
  • Knowledge of garment construction/design
  • Experience in troubleshooting  
  • Very hands on, detailed approach to your work
  • Strength in negotiation for lead-times and costing efficiencies
  • Proficient in a PDM/PLM system
