Bioinformatics R&D Fellowship

Palantir Technologies, Washington, D.C.

Palantir builds software that connects data, technologies, humans and environments.

A World-Changing Company

At Palantir, we’re passionate about building software that solves problems. We partner with the most important institutions in the world to transform how they use data and technology. Our software has been used to stop terrorist attacks, discover new medicines, gain an edge in global financial markets, and more. If these types of projects excite you, we'd love for you to join us.

The Role

Palantir's full-time two-year research and development fellowship program is an opportunity for enterprising PhD graduates to accelerate the understanding and treatment of devastating human diseases. Between Palantir and its biomedical partners in research institutes, cancer centers, and pharmaceutical companies, Bioinformatics Fellows will have access to a unique ecosystem of data, technology, and expertise in which to pursue bioinformatics research.

Core Responsibilities

Bioinformatics Fellows will have an opportunity to propose or select categories of research, with a general focus on data-driven pre-clinical and clinical studies as well as meta-studies. Fellows will be expected to publish their findings in peer-reviewed journals.

Beyond publishing their research, fellows will have an opportunity to:

  • Pioneer new data-driven approaches to pre-clinical and clinical research
  • See their research move from laboratory into development, and into the clinic
  • Present their research at meetings and conferences alongside leaders at our public and private partner organizations
  • Become skilled in Palantir's tools and platforms for bioinformatics
  • Receive training and mentorship from Palantir leaders in data science and technology, as well as mentorship around outreach to new institutions to identify our next partners
  • Influence execution at existing biomedical partner organizations

  • What We Value

The ideal fellow has completed (or is soon to complete) a PhD in a scientific discipline, and has an aptitude for data. They must desire to explore data-driven approaches to medical research, and seek collaboration that this ecosystem uniquely offers. To that extent, we value candidates with:

  • A completed Ph.D in a scientific field. Candidates may apply up to 6 months before graduation.
  • Research and course work demonstrating a familiarity with and an aptitude for data and statistics
  • The ability and desire to self-direct
  • Experience working with large-scale biological data (e.g. RNA- seq, single cell-seq, ATAC-Seq, Screening data, etc)
  • Excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively across a team of engineers and biologists, chemists and clinical researchers
  • Coding / Scripting experience. Fellows do not need to be a computer scientist, but must be able to use scripting languages to accomplish analytical goals
