DevOps Engineer

Palantir Technologies, Washington, D.C.

Palantir builds software that connects data, technologies, humans and environments.

A World-Changing Company

At Palantir, we’re passionate about building software that solves problems. We partner with the most important institutions in the world to transform how they use data and technology. Our software has been used to stop terrorist attacks, discover new medicines, gain an edge in global financial markets, and more. If these types of projects excite you, we'd love for you to join us.

The Role

As a DevOps engineer, you will be joining a team of enthusiastic engineers set out to build tools and applications to keep Palantir running smoothly, reliably, and efficiently. We do everything from running the development pipelines to deploying self-service container schedulers for various company workloads. Given the breadth of the work that we do, learning and growth is a primary goal for all DevOps Engineers.

On any given day, you could be improving the stability and scalability of our systems, driving adoption of best practices, and developing new solutions to new problems. Our team operates at close to a 1:100 ratio with our users, which means that we’re very dedicated on finding the best solution (including open sourced and managed solutions) and automating every process along the way.

In this role, you will:

  • Develop our system management tool offerings by using an agile, iterative method, and get feedback directly from users to create the best working environment in the industry.
  • Research, evaluate, develop, and deploy new tools to improve user efficiency. This includes tools that make deploying code easy for devs, as well as tools that make it easy for users to build their own virtual machines, making your solutions the most compelling to use.
  • Deploy highly available, scalable, maintainable, monitored systems and services using infrastructure-as-code frameworks.
  • Lead the adoption of tooling and industry best practices by means of advocacy and outreach to help our development teams level up.
  • Use Bash, Go, Python, Java, or whatever tools are at your disposal to automate lifecycle management: deployment, information security posture, maintenance, and inventory.

What We Value

  • B.S./M.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Math, Physics, or equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years experience working in Developer Operations.
  • Experience working with AWS or another cloud provider.
  • Experience with managing and developing on highly-available and distributed software.
  • Proficiency in a language such as Java, Python, or Go.
  • Comfortable working in a rapidly changing environment with dynamic objectives.
  • Ability to continuously learn, work independently, and make decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Exposure to infrastructure-as-code frameworks like Terraform and Cloudformation and modern web frameworks like React.
