Today, we’re recognized as a global leader in interactive and digital entertainment. The PlayStation brand falls under Sony Interactive Entertainment, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sony Corporation.

Senior Manager, Social Media

San Mateo, CA

This Senior Manager role will be responsible for content strategy, planning, management, and execution across all official PlayStation social media channels, including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and PlayStation.Blog.

Responsibilities:

The Sr. Manager, Social Media will manage core members of the United States-based social media content team. This individual will use their deep experience in content strategy, creative management, and people management to create and publish informative, interesting, and valuable content to gamers on social media and digital channels.

This role is geared towards a veteran, passionate content creator: Someone with proven, expert experience in producing gaming content for digital/social channels. Experience in managing video programming or production is a major plus for this position, as is a strong familiarity with the videogame landscape and pop culture, and experience in working within larger organizations.

This role requires strong project management and people management skills. We are expecting a senior content expert who is passionate about collaborating closely with other content experts and business stakeholders, and boasts a proven track record for leading small teams.

As part of the SIE Social Media team, the Senior Manager will report into the Director of SIE Social Media, and collaborate closely with the Public Relations team and the larger SIE Marketing teams. They will transform company initiatives into engaging, authentic, and valuable content by organizing the efforts of the team and overseeing larger, more complex projects.

  • Strong time management skills with ability to multitask -- and prioritize -- in a fast-paced and constantly changing environment
  • Extensive knowledge of the modern videogame landscape, the PlayStation ecosystem, and broader gaming culture and history will be a major plus
  • Extensive social media knowledge; you know the ins and outs of all the major platforms, but also the underlying dynamics driving user behavior and trends affecting the wider content ecosystem, and you push to experiment with new channels and media formats to learn their ins and outs
  • Strong people skills and communication skills -- this role demands routine collaboration with dozens of different teams, often under tight timetables with changing objectives
  • Emphasis on team building, creative leadership, and coaxing the best performance from the best talent is a key component of this role
  • Ability to work comfortably amidst multiple disciplines: creative, editorial, operational, analytic
  • Knowledge of social media metrics, reporting, and KPIs, and proven experience in using data to inform content strategy and creative development
  • Traditional digital marketers are welcome, but driving creation of authentic, enthusiast-focused, organic gaming content is central to this role.
  • Technical skills required: Understanding of HTML, basic graphic/photo editing, collaborative tools, and digital video specs is required.
  • Organizational skills required: People management; teamwork and collaboration skills; ability to manage relationships with video producers, writers, editors, and creative contributors of all kinds; proven ability to drive significant initiatives; experience working in larger corporations is a big plus
  • Specialized skills appreciated: Experience with professional video editing software, corporate communications, management of paid media creative, or managing content creators aka influencers, are all helpful
  • Some national travel, and occasional international travel, is required
