As a technical leader within the PlayStation Network (PSN) Infrastructure Architecture team, the Infrastructure Architect – Tools provides technical expertise for the services and tools needed to support PSN’s hosting environments.  The Infrastructure Architect works closely with other architects and engineers to ensure maximum visibility of the performance and availability of hosted services and systems to operations teams and business stakeholders.  Reporting to the Architecture Manager, this role is responsible for defining strategy and roadmap, designing solutions, leading projects, and developing best practices within the tools infrastructure. The successful candidate will have strong communication skills, have a broad understanding of all areas of infrastructure, have expertise in monitoring tools for large-scale infrastructure, and be able to collaborate with a team of architects and engineers to develop overall designs to support the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Develop overall strategy and roadmap of the tools infrastructure
  • Analyze technical requirements to determine tools infrastructure designs, potential issues, and related costs
  • Produce detailed design documents used to build and operate tools infrastructure
  • Work with internal and external engineers and architects to prevent or solve difficult functional and performance issues
  • Interact with internal and external technical leaders to develop innovative solutions that meet business needs with respect to availability, functionality, performance, scalability, security, and reliability with realistic implementation schedules and adherence to architectural goals and principles
  • Lead medium- and large-scale projects building tools infrastructure
  • Contribute to the selection, prototyping, and implementation of tools software and services needed to solve business problems
  • Be available for on-call escalation when necessary

Qualifications

  • 9+ years of related experience, including 4+ years working in large-scale hosting environments
  • Strong leadership qualities and the ability to gain respect across a highly technical team
  • Experience in designing, deploying, and supporting on-premise and cloud-based hosting environments running high volume web-based applications and servers
  • Ability to quickly learn existing complex systems infrastructure
  • Demonstrable analytical and problem solving skills, particularly as it relates to systems design
  • Experience in developing enterprise processes to promote efficiency
  • Ability to influence, train, mentor and leverage the skills of others, including business partners and technical team
  • Excellent communication and relationship skills
  • Expertise several of the following:
    • Log management and analysis tools, such as Syslog, Splunk, and Logstash
    • Infrastructure monitoring tools such as Nagios, Check_MK and Grafana
    • Application monitoring tools such as CA APM, AppDynamics, and Dynatrace
    • Network monitoring tools such as ExtraHop, SolarWinds, and ThousandEyes
    • Automation using Python, Ansible and Puppet
  • Strong knowledge of the following:
    • Public cloud infrastructure and hosting
    • Apache, Tomcat and other web services
    • Linux operating systems
    • TCP/IP and DNS
    • Load-balancing, including F5, HAProxy, and Amazon ELB
    • Utility scripting (e.g. awk, sed, python)
  • Proficient with drawing tools such as Visio
  • Proficient with complex spreadsheets using formulas
  • Ability to work with and analyze large, complex data sets
  • Ability to thrive in a high-pressured but highly structured, customer-oriented environment
  • Ability to contribute to multiple projects/demands simultaneously

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience interacting with vendors
  • Contributor to related Open Source projects used in enterprise environments
  • Experience working in Agile environments, familiar with SAFe
  • Certifications, such as ITIL, Splunk Architect, and/or AWS Solutions Architect
