Role
As a Director of Research in our San Francisco office you are a highly collaborative consultant, perfectly organized, who keeps an eye on details. In this role you’ll never be bored. You will collaborate internally with colleagues to pitch and run projects, partner with clients to solve their problems with different methodologies, manage and grow your team, and manage research platforms and vendors. You are part of a very experienced Leadership team building the office. This role is a great opportunity for someone to move up in their career and participate in a wide range of client projects.
 
In San Francisco, we work primarily on web and mobile projects, brand strategy and communications, product launches, supplementing our client’s internal teams. Our research focus is primarily market and brand research with some design research, for example: understanding new and existing markets, testing messaging and design concepts, and competitively benchmarking the user experience. We, uniquely in the company cover all aspects of Brand Experience from Insights, UX, Design to Technology development.
 
We have a staff of 25 and a great mix of clients that includes Subaru/Asia , SMBC, Salesforce, Disney, Cisco, Damon Motors and a range of startups with new products
 
This role reports to the General Manager and works with Directors of UX/Tech/Creative/PM and Business Development, where you advocate to ensure that each client understands and benefits from customer insight. You will also be a part of our projekt202 Experience Strategy and Insight practice and collaborate with other leads across the company. You will have responsibilities for growing a team in the San Francisco office.  You will have account responsibilities and business development goals as determined by the SF office plan. 

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with clients to develop balanced understanding of their business and their customers and markets and be their trusted collaborator.
  • Scope and prioritize and plan pitches and presentations
  • Balance risks and needs and constraints
  • Improve customer centricity on projects, with clients, with colleagues
  • Lead and grow team of research and strategy, mentor them and others in the office.
  • Manage day-to-day of research projects with team (and contribute directly to the research work)
  • Find operational efficiencies and drive them
  • Manage vendors and tools (Qualtrics, Brandwatch, Userlytics, Chaordix, Dynata, Prodege, others), establish access for p202 teams, and promote other developing tools.
  • Contribute to the research work — designing surveys, analyzing data, interviewing customers, presenting insights and recommendations to stakeholders

Requirements:

  • 8+ years of research experience across customer insights, market research, user experience benchmarking, brand research, and some experience with design research - or a mix of experience that is arguably relevant.
  • 2+ years of management or lead experience
  • Experience developing strategies from data and mixed methods, leading qualitative and quantitative data gathering and influencing stakeholders through the findings.
  • Experience in building and/or identifying people to add to the team team and advocating and educating the office on all things research and insights.
  • Experience with multiple clients at the same time a plus.
  • Proficient directing and managing research tools and vendors such as online survey platforms, sample providers, data visualization, and social-listening platforms
  • Problem solving, within constraints, collaborating with colleagues and clients
  • Run research programs and projects on budget and time from large to small to sometimes ambiguous
  • Flexibility to tailor approach to deliver insights within, at times, shorter timeframes
  • Experience collaborating internally and externally across clients, colleagues, and vendors
  • Enjoy presenting and pitching and being able to articulate solutions for our clients and ask the questions that drive a better understanding of their real problems.
