QA Lead

Quora, Mountain View, CA

Q&A platform that empowers people to share and grow the world’s knowledge

To achieve our mission, we're looking for an experienced and entrepreneurial QA Lead to own the overall quality assurance and product quality efforts for the company. This is an impactful, cross-cutting role with an emphasis on defining and implementing QA processes for the entire product development org and driving product quality improvements across the company. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong attention to detail, has experience and intuition with consumer internet products, believes in the mission, and feels comfortable driving radical changes or pushing against the status quo.

The vast majority of the world's information is still locked inside of peoples' heads, inaccessible to the millions of people whose lives could be transformed by access to that knowledge. Quora's mission is to share and grow the world's knowledge by unlocking that information, and empowering people to share what they know, so we can all make smarter decisions, improve our lives, and learn from each others' diverse perspectives.

The opportunity here is massive, and right now is the perfect time to join the company! Over 200 million people (and growing!) visit Quora every month, and we're just now embarking on the exciting new frontiers of internationalization and monetization.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and evangelize QA processes and strategy for the company — you will be the primary owner and centralized driving force for product quality improvements at Quora
  • Collaborate with PMs, designers, engineers, and data scientists to develop test plans and perform pre-launch QA of new features
  • Run the end-to-end mobile testing process before new app version submissions
  • Develop and run a process to perform regular audits of key flows and areas of the product
  • Develop a rigorous testing matrix for browsers / devices / OS / connection speeds to ensure greater coverage for QA tests
  • Work with dev teams to drive improvements to bug reporting flows (both internal and external), enforce bug SLAs, build better tools and tests, drive efforts to improve automated tests, etc.
  • Collect feedback from users, triage, and route to the appropriate product teams
  • Develop company-wide metrics to understand the state of product quality and how it impacts the user experience
  • Work with dev teams to make balanced trade-offs between maintaining our culture of scrappiness and high dev velocity without sacrificing product quality
  • Be the company-wide expert on how all flows in the product work to help identify usability problems, identify inconsistencies, suggest new features or improvements, and synthesize those learnings into company-wide reports.
  • Manage external QA vendors
  • Scale QA processes as our dev team continues to grow rapidly
  • Over time, recruit, build, structure, and lead the QA team

Requirements:

  • Experience developing and running QA processes, ideally in consumer internet companies. Bonus for managing a team or starting a team from scratch.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with dev teams including engineering, product management, design, and data science
  • Proven ability to drive product quality initiatives and processes, getting buy-in and adoption from various stakeholders in product development
  • Experience testing mobile and web applications
  • Understanding of QA methodologies and processes
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Strong attention to detail and a passion for finding and analyzing problems
  • Passion for Quora's mission and goals, mission-first mindset
