Scaled Spam and Abuse Analyst

As Quora grows, one of our most critical challenges is to protect our users from malicious actors, such as spammers, harassers, and persistent trolls. We're looking for a scaled spam and abuse analyst to help us ensure Quora is a trustworthy and safe site for our millions of users. This position is an impactful, cross-cutting role, interfacing with our product development and user operations teams. This person will be responsible for identifying and eradicating patterns of hostile behavior on the site, and for developing new features and strategies to prevent spammers from finding value on Quora. 

The ideal candidate is a self-starter with strong analytical skills, system-level thinking, and persistence in the face of adapting adversaries. They have experience and intuition with analysis of content on consumer internet products and believe in the mission of Quora. 

Responsibilities

  • Guide and execute on spam strategies using data-driven decision making
  • Use SQL and Python to develop features, rules, and other methods to catch bad actors
  • Conduct investigations into sophisticated forms of abuse, take action on malicious actors and close attack vectors
  • Develop metrics for measuring and understanding Quora's effectiveness at combating spam
  • Partner with Data Science, Product, Engineering and Operations teams to solve content quality problems at scale — identifying new patterns of abuse and building features and internal tools to reduce it

Requirements

  • BS in CS, Statistics, related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proficiency in SQL and regular expressions. Experience with large data sets and distributed computing (Hive, Redshift) a plus
  • Familiarity with Python or similar scripting language
  • Experience in data analysis / modeling, particularly of text-based content
  • Strong communication and data visualization skills
  • Prefer experience in detecting and managing spam/abuse in internet products
