Software Engineer - Design System for Android

Ring is looking for a Software Engineer to focus on building out our Mobile Design System. This person will work closely with the Ring Product Design Group to build out scalable foundation and component level UI that can be leveraged and consumed by all Ring Mobile Developers.  

Basic Qualifications

  • BS degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience designing and developing on the Android platform, including Java, Android Studio, Gradle, adb, and shipping products to the google play store
  • Familiarity with Web architectures and services (HTTP, REST, WebSockets, SOAP, JSON, etc.)
  • Experience with additional software technologies such as NodeJS, Ruby, Go, C++, Java, Javascript, Android Java
  • Familiarity third-party libraries and APIs including cloud message APIs and push notifications (like Firebase)
  • Proficient understanding of code versioning tools such as Git
  • Familiarity with continuous integration, automated unit testing and integration testing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Deep understanding of agile principles and exposure to various process implementations
  • Understanding of Material design principles and interface guidelines
  • Solid understanding of the full mobile development life cycle, including the Android deployment/release system.
  • Working knowledge of general UI design principles, patterns, and best practices
  • Working knowledge of the general mobile landscape, architectures, trends, and emerging technologies
  • Knowledge of low-level C-based libraries is preferred
  • Appreciation and attention to detail for UI related tasks for phones and tablets.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build mobile application UI components for consumption and usage.
  • Ensure the performance, quality, and responsiveness of applications through architectural input and mentoring peers
  • Collaborate with a cross-functional agile team to define, design, and ship new features
  • Identify and correct bottlenecks and fix bugs
  • Help maintain code quality, organization, and automatization
