Who we are:

Rover.com connects pet parents with the nation’s largest network of pet sitters and dog walkers. On Rover, pet parents can easily discover, book, and manage personalized care for their dogs including pet sitting, dog walking, and doggy day care. Founded in 2011 on the belief that everyone should have the opportunity to experience the unconditional love of a dog, Rover improves and simplifies life for pet parents and the dogs they love.

We're headquartered in downtown Seattle. We're an agile, fast-growing startup, and our leadership comes from some of the country's most respected tech companies. Our Senior Leadership team has been recognized by Forbes, Seattle Business, and Geekwire. For the past three years we have been nominated as one of Seattle's "Best Places to Work" by Seattle Business Magazine, and celebrated awards in 2016 and 2017 by Seattle Met magazine and the Puget Sound Business Journal. We're also the recipient of World’s Most Dog-Friendly Offices in 2016 by Inc.com. Needless to say (but we're going to say it anyway)—we love dogs, and we wouldn't dream of going to work without them by our sides.

Who we’re looking for:

The Marketplace Analyst is responsible for defining, analyzing, and managing the health and well-being of the Rover marketplace as a complex ecosystem, in our never-ending quest to efficiently match supply and demand while delighting customers: both dog owners and dog sitters. As a member of the core analytics team at Rover, you will provide deep domain expertise and analytics support to quantitatively-minded individuals across the broader organization. You will develop hypotheses by talking with customers and internal stakeholders, design tests, analyze marketplace data and propose innovative analytic approaches to addressing core business problems.

At a high level, you will have two core areas of focus:

1.  Working with Marketing, Operations, and Product Management to provide cross-functional analytics support to a wide variety of teams, across a range of business initiatives. This requires technical proficiency in SQL, deep experience with hypothesis testing and experimental design, passion for the Rover marketplace and an ability to ramp quickly on Rover marketplace data, systems, and of course the product and end user experience

2. Defining, monitoring, and narrating trends in the KPIs used to measure the efficiency, health, and well-being of the Rover marketplace.

Your Toolset Includes:

  • SQL
  • Python (or at least one additional programming language; e.g., R, Matlab, C++, etc)
  • Tableau, Looker, or similar data visualization tools
  • Google Analytics or similar user funnel analytics tools
  • Fundamentals of hypothesis testing: design of experiments, data sufficiency and statistical power, understanding of meta-significance, etc.

Your Qualifications:

  • BS/MS in a quantitative field of study - Math, Statistics, the natural sciences - the main thing is you have learned how to think analytically.
  • 2+ years experience working with real-world data. This is not your first job out of college - but it might be your first job out of graduate school; let’s talk.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Specifically, you know how to present analytics results to the business in a useful and consumable way
  • Deep understanding of the challenges of hypothesis testing in the real world

Why We'll Hire You:

  • You are scary good with data. You look at charts, furrow your eyebrows, and observe that something doesn’t seem quite right. Others see trends; you see outliers. Mix shifts, lag effects, data sufficiency issues - these things are second nature to you.
  • You are passionate about our core business. You will instinctively dig into every aspect of what it means to be a dog sitter and a dog owner on the Rover platform.
  • You have deep empathy for the business owners you will support. You understand at a cellular level that people have jobs to do and decisions to make, and it is your job to help them do that in as data-driven a way as possible.
  • You have an uncanny ability to get to the question behind the question. You do not accept presuppositions, and are driven to find solutions and novel approaches; to figure out what can be done to move the business forward, in the messy real world of imperfect information.
  • You show a pattern of being self-started, self-taught, and self-directed. You are your own QA team, producing quality analysis and creating novel ways to ensure accuracy.

Benefits of Working at Rover.com:

  • Competitive compensation
  • 401k
  • Stock options
  • 4 weeks paid time off
  • Competitive benefits package, including medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Commuter benefits
  • Bring your dog to work (and unlimited puppy time)
  • Doggy benefits, including $1000 toward adopting your first dog
  • Stocked fridges, coffee, soda, and lots of treats (for humans and dogs)
  • Free catered lunches semi-monthly
  • Regular team activities, including happy hours, snow tubing, game nights, and more
  • 50 free dog walks a year
Rover embraces diversity and opposes discrimination.
This position is based at Rover HQ in Downtown Seattle.
Candidates must be eligible to work in the US.
