Who we're looking for:

The Dog People—Rover’s popular media outlet—seeks a Copy Editor & SEO Optimization Specialist to join our Brand Publishing team. This position will be responsible for researching and editing articles from Rover’s archive to improve SEO performance and increase business impact. The role will continually look for opportunities to leverage our extensive library of high-quality informational, lifestyle, and shopping articles to maximize the value to our audience and pet parents
Do you have a love for pets and a passion for writing and content marketing? Does it make you cringe when you spot a missed opportunity to include relevant keywords? Do you believe that SEO is an awesome tool to create content that helps people in meaningful ways? Does the thought of a perfectly-crafted H1 or meta tag description get your pulse racing? If so, we’d love to meet you and discuss our shared love of improving SERPs, driving organic sessions, and the best way to secure a choice featured snippet. 
We’re looking for a strong copy editor who is engaged with SEO trends and best practices. The ideal candidate will have a keen sense of how to balance writing helpful content for people that is rigorously optimized for search engines. You are a self-starter who feels comfortable tracking, reporting, and analyzing data from platforms such as Google Analytics. You’re adept in publishing via Wordpress and can work cross-functionally to assist in driving SEO goals across the business. 

Your Responsibilities:

  • Copy edit informational articles designed to help dog and cat owners
  • Create a calendar and regular cadence of top-performing seasonally relevant articles to rewrite and optimization
  • Perform data analysis to identify and prioritize opportunities to drive organic search sessions
  • Manage and track projects via a team editorial calendar 
  • Refine and improve brand voice on legacy articles while optimizing for accuracy, clarity, and SEO performance
  • Analyze and report on content performance 
  • Some article writing as needed

Your Qualifications:

  • Excellent copy editing skills
  • 2+ years of experience in writing SEO-optimized content
  • 1+ year of experience in keyword analysis
  • Working knowledge of current SEO best practices 
  • A background in branded content and/or content marketing
  • Experience using website optimization tools to measure content impact 
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced digital publishing environment
  • Proficient in Wordpress 
  • Impeccable proofreading skills
  • Experienced steward of a brand voice
  • Super detail-oriented 
  • Self-directed and accountable
  • Exceptional prioritization skills
