About the Role

Help us lay the technical groundwork for Samsara’s newest product family, “Connected Worker,” focused on enhancing workplace safety and productivity to benefit people working in harsh, industrial environments. Our first product is an AI-enhanced video recording device that stores camera footage, runs the footage through deep learning models, and allows users to view camera streams via our cloud dashboard and mobile application. Our video management platform empowers users to better understand how to improve the safety and efficiency of their worksite operations.

As a Senior Full Stack Engineer on Connected Worker, you will architect and build a mobile and web application that manages a powerful computer vision system for workplace safety monitoring. We are a small team of 10 engineers spanning frontend, mobile, backend, infrastructure, and firmware; expect to wear many hats and become very familiar with the product and sales side of the business.

In this role, you will be building:

  • A dynamic UI for exploring live and historical video data and events
  • Video streaming features/enhancements for our mobile and web applications
  • Device management features for our on-prem site gateways and IP cameras into our mobile app
  • Site management and mapping features for our mobile app
  • Visual search features in the web application and mobile application. Features include support for searching for people with certain clothing colors.

We use Golang for our backend, Typescript and React for our web client, GraphQL to fetch data from our backend, and React Native for our mobile app. Direct experience with these technologies is not required.

An ideal candidate has:

  • Has 5+ years of relevant industry experience in software development
  • Is interested in working on an early stage venture
  • Enjoys understanding our users and what would make their day to day processes easier to manage
  • Is interested in owning and building out new features end to end
  • Can work across the entire stack
  • Enjoys working collaboratively with developers of different focuses (infra, firmware, vision, etc)
  • Experience working with React or Typescript is a plus

About Samsara

About Breakthroughs in semiconductors are making sensors smaller and radically cheaper, and wireless Internet connectivity is becoming ubiquitous. Yet traditional enterprise-scale sensor systems still require complex infrastructure, from hard-wired networks to servers, middleware, and custom code. As a result, sensor projects can take months — if not years — to bring online. Samsara disrupts the traditional sensor model with an integrated, software-centric solution. Our products combine plug-and-play sensors, wireless connectivity, and rich cloud-hosted software, all tightly-integrated for simple deployment. Samsara was founded in early 2015 by Sanjit Biswas and John Bicket. Sanjit and John previously co-founded Meraki, the cloud networking leader. Meraki was acquired by Cisco for $1.2 billion in 2012, and under Sanjit and John's continued leadership became one of Cisco’s fastest growing businesses. Samsara’s team includes veteran executives and technical leaders from companies including Google, Apple, and Meraki, who bring experience in big data, cloud software, and hardware design. In Sanskrit, "Samsara" is the eternal cycle of life and rebirth.
