As a Back-end Engineer at Adevinta, you will be at the heart of an effort to utilize our unique combination of data to bring about the next generation of digital products and services. You will have a direct impact on millions of users around the world by building data products.
As part of the Personalization team, you will be responsible for building microservices that provide data based on user and content data that contribute to our search and discovery product suite. We use a combination of batch and stream processing to be able to leverage a variety of machine learning algorithms that are combined by a blender in our API so we can offer the best experience possible for each user.
The team consists of data scientists and engineers that work closely together to deliver end-to-end data products such as recommender systems, data-driven search (using learning-to-rank), autocomplete, related searches and other personalised products that help our users make perfect matches on our sites. Adevinta’s wide portfolio of sites and services means that we have plenty of data sources and application areas to try out many different approaches in a creative, innovative and ambitious environment.
Design and build technical solutions from scratch, as well as to understand and contribute to existing ones in a fast moving org / fast iterations / in an intelligent / efficient way
Advocate and apply best practices for building complex systems and microservices
Contribute to the end-to-end deployment of machine learning models to ensure that they perform in production as intended.
Collaborate in cross-functional teams consisting of product managers, data engineers and data scientists to build great products together.
Work in an agile team where pair programming, code reviews and knowledge sharing are a common practice.
+5 years experience in industry in a similar role
Engineer by heart, but passionate about machine learning
Extensive experience working with microservices
Experience with functional programming in Scala, we are currently working with FP tools such as cats and http4s
Experience with large data sets, distributed computing, or Apache Spark is a plus.
Experience with Kafka and streaming frameworks such as Kafka Streams, Spark Structured Streaming, or Flink is a plus.
Experience working with Docker and Kubernetes is a plus
Experience with AWS and/or other cloud providers
Experience with CI/CD tools such as TravisCI, Jenkins, Spinnaker, CircleCI or any other
Experience with a scripting language (ideally Python), and UNIX command line tools
