Sila Nanotechnologies seeks an experienced, hands-on engineer with an aptitude for learning new things and a desire to help invent the next generation of Li-ion batteries. This position will focus on designing and optimizing these batteries, along with lab and pilot scale manufacturing and test systems. You’ll be working across materials, mechanical, and electrochemical domains with scientists, engineers, and technicians, so mental flexibility and collaborative problem solving abilities are required. You don’t need to have deep experience in Lithium Ion, but you must be willing to get it.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop systems and procedures for the fabrication and test of lithium ion batteries
  • Iterate on materials and process combinations to optimize cell performance
  • Mentor, coach, and support other engineers, scientists, and technicians on collaborative projects
  • Travel to partner sites and transfer our technology into manufacturing facilities
  • Find failure-modes and root-causes. Crush them
  • Lead multi-year customer-facing collaboration projects. Produce product-optimized performance data and maintain communication with external partners


  • Exceptional process-engineering, experimentation, and system design abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new systems and improve on them
  • Experience with materials, chemicals, PV, semiconductors, or pharma is a plus
  • Experience with Lithium Ion Batteries is a large plus
  • Must have at least a B.S. in engineering or physical sciences (e.g. ME, Physics, ChemE)
  • 7+ years of work experience
