User Experience (UX) Designers at Symplicity work with stakeholders, domain experts, developers, and designers to understand big problems and build effective solutions. Our UX Designers practice Human-Centered Design and Design Thinking. They are involved in every step of the process, including user research, comparative analysis, information architecture, rapid prototyping, and hi-fidelity interaction design.

In this role, you’ll be focused on understanding business requirements, conducting user research, defining and prioritizing user needs, and designing features for responsive web applications. We know that there is no one-size-fits-all UX process, and we lean on our commitment to empathy, inclusion, and evidence-based decision-making to do our best work. Due to COVID-19, Symplicity is currently allowing all employees to work from home. When we do eventually return to the office, employees will be expected to work from our beautiful headquarters near the Clarendon Metro stop.

Essential Duties

  • Identify user behaviors through contextual research and usability studies
  • Find patterns and define insights from large datasets
  • Build empathy and understanding via collaborative workshops
  • Design and validate improvements and features for responsive web applications
  • Write helpful microcopy to guide users through complex tasks
  • Use and contribute to our shared UI design and illustration systems
  • Actively support the Agile (SCRUM) development tea

Desired Qualifications

  • Advanced degree or equivalent training and experience in Human Computer Interaction, Human Factors, Cognitive Psychology, Digital Product Design, or related field of study
  • At least 2 years of post-academic experience in a UX or Product Design role
  • Proficiency in design-related software (e.g., Sketch, InVision, Adobe Illustrator).

Nice to Have

  • Prior experience working on B2B or B2B2C product design in an Agile environment.
  • Thorough understanding of UX methodologies and tools
  • Appreciation for complex systems and the importance of information architecture (IA), database design and query performance, object relationship mapping (ORM), REST, WCAG 2.0, platform guidelines
  • Experience designing multilingual products for a global audience
  • User behavior analysis with Google Analytics or similar tool
