This is a cross-functional role which will support Product as well as Marketing teams in order to better understand and improve customer engagement with the Trainline products. The role is part of the wider Analytics team, which currently consists of 11 Analysts. The team is responsible for analysis of the UK as well global markets, across Web and App.
The successful candidate will look to help scaling and refining our customer engagement measurement capabilities, help setting and monitoring the right goals, and identifying and sizing testing opportunities. The candidate will also be monitoring operational KPIs which align with wider business goals.


  • Being the primary reference point to carry out ad hoc analysis to support the Engagement team
  • Delivering analysis to business owners based on customer behavior and interaction through qualitative and quantitative analysis on both app and web
  • Managing Experimentation analytics (AB/multivariate)
  • Ensuring measurement results are translated into real business impact
  • Delivering clear hypothesis’s based on learnings from experimentation
  • Creating performance dashboards and reporting functionality on customer behavior
  • Constantly develop your own professional knowledge and awareness of customer behavior
  • Use data to identify areas of opportunity to drive better customer engagement and customer lifetime value
  • Supporting budgeting, goal setting and monitoring across key customer engagement metrics, modelling the business impact of proposed changes

Knowledge & Experience

  • At least 3 years of analytical experience; at least 2 years in ecommerce or marketing evaluation
  • Experience in Customer analytics applied to a commercial environment is a strong plus
  • Strong working knowledge & experience with relational databases (e.g. SQL) to query frontend analytics solutions, e.g. Google Analytics or Adobe Omniture
  • Extensive and proven experience using SQL to extract insight and recommendations from data
  • Strong data visualisation skills using tools like Tableau, Spotfire, Power BI etc
  • Experience of Product engagement evaluation and measurement of success/ROI. For example, running ecommerce ABn testing to evaluate product effectiveness or using front end data to quantify the effectiveness of new features and how it changes user engagement
  • Navigating imperfect data sets and complexity/ambiguity of analysis to derive clear insights and actionable results
