Software Engineer - Video Delivery Edge

Twitch, San Francisco, CA

Video platform and community for gamers

Twitch is building the future of interactive entertainment, and our video CDN is at the core of that vision. Ensuring smooth, low-latency video across the world requires large-scale, fault-tolerant systems that can keep up with millions of simultaneous viewers and thousands of broadcasters.

We are looking for engineers with different levels of experience to work on our video edge, which is responsible for delivering massive amounts of data to our users in real-time. We value generalists who can work on problems spanning monitoring, reliability, performance optimization, Internet-scale configuration management, and integration with many internal Twitch systems.

  • Collaborate with other teams and engineers to design new services, and implement new features in existing services
  • Design integrations between services, including services owned by other teams
  • Create, test, document, and automate operational processes
  • Work with third parties to improve the Twitch experience
  • Provide operational support for new and experimental services
  • Help define the future of the Twitch video stack
  • Participate in code and design reviews, teaching and learning from other engineers

  • Experience as a software engineer working on large scalable systems using SOA/micro services
  • Either 2+ years of experience in a software engineering or equivalent role; or a Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related discipline
  • You’re comfortable with fast iteration, but can also deliver software which runs for months unattended
  • Excellent communicator and team player
  • Excellent command of at least one programming language
  • Ability to learn new languages (we mainly use Go, Python and C) and technologies quickly

Bonus Points

  • Deep understanding of networking principles
  • Experience securing publicly available services
  • You know Go and have used it in production ready systems

  • Catered daily lunch and dinners (and hearty breakfasts three times a week)
  • Unlimited snacks and drinks
