We are looking for a Creative Director to visually bring our brand to life. A professional that will build remarkable creative strategy, experiences, and develop a creative system for brand presence and direct response messaging. You will establish and steward a distinct style for expressing our narrative through the lens of a defined brand. Reporting to the Director of Brand Marketing, you are a hands-on visionary with the energy and skill set to build and motivate a team. You have solid experience using tools and/or agencies to scale creative. You are a master at solving creative problems — and seamlessly straddle the line between creative and business mindset. To solve these creative problems, you will work with many teams. And while you have a ‘get it done’ mindset, you recognize the need to maintain high quality output. You have a strong design background, but you are also a master at copy, and have a background in video.

With your discerning eye for exceptional design, ability to tell a compelling story, and understanding of how to apply design to a range of channels across digital mediums, you inspire great work in a fast-paced, process-driven environment.

Here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • Overseeing the strategy and creative direction of the Udemy brand (B2C focus though some B2B)
  • Defining, developing, and uniting the creative voice and visual identity 
  • Assessing and onboarding creative tools and/or agencies to help scale creative to the needs of various channels (acquisition/retention as well as departments in Udemy that need creative services)
  • Streamlining and improving the creative briefing process
  • Developing and championing practical brand style guide to drive brand consistency across global touch-points
  • Developing original breakthrough ideas for a variety of marketing touch-points including onsite banners, mobile web, social, video, digital ads, and more
  • Developing culturally sensitive and appropriate executions that adapt regionally across a global audience
  • Communicating strategically who stands out among peers with proven experience leading creative work across design, art direction, copywriting, and videography
  • Working cross-functionally, balancing the needs of stakeholders and able to break down complex narratives into simple, compelling ideas
  • Collaborating with key stakeholders and outside agency partners to set the creative strategy to bring the brand to life across initiatives, channels and products. Use this strategy to guide the priorities and output of the creative team
  • Partnering closely with channel owners to build a consistent end-to-end brand experience across marketing touch-points and mediums
  • Developing iterative approach to creative to cultivate testing culture for creative assets to drive performance
  • Cultivating ownership of marketing initiatives and performance across the creative team through iteration, experimentation and subject matter expertise in products and/or channels
  • Mentoring and managing a cross-functional team of creatives (design, copy, and video) — owning the personal and professional development of these individuals
  • Developing, inspiring, enabling, and energizing a world-class creative team

We’re excited about you because you have:

  • 12+ years experience as a creative leader in agency or in-house creative/design management, with excellent campaign-heavy portfolio
  • Experience developing and managing consumer marketing programs in a data-driven, integrated marketing environment
  • Experience across the full palette of creative expression: traditional, digital, experiential, and ideas that drive earned media
  • Ability to lead and mentor a diverse team of designers, copywriters, video editors, and production designers
  • Experienced with scaling creative design, copy, and video for testing and multi market launches
  • Comfort with ambiguity and proven ability to create clarity in it
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and a sophisticated understanding of what should be communicated to different audiences
  • Skilled in Adobe Suite: Smartly and other DCOs, Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat, Sketch, Invision, as well as Keynote
  • Led an in-house creative team that has developed creative campaigns for acquisition marketing in addition to brand marketing
  • Experience in performance marketing across channels
  • Ego- and drama-free — you know we’re all on the same team

  • Bachelor’s Degree

  • Agency experience
