In this role as a seasoned International Tax Manager, you will be responsible for managing the income, franchise, gross receipts tax implications related to the marketplace and enterprise business teams and support current and future offerings, expansions, restructurings, operating guidelines, and day-to-day questions with the sales force.  You must be able to directly liaise with various business units and develop comprehensive tax solutions in support of the businesses, develop tax requirements that clearly articulate such solutions and drive the implementation of such solutions.  The ideal candidate will primarily focus on international income tax matters but will also have a base knowledge of indirect tax and transfer pricing issues.  The candidate will also work closely with other members of the global tax and accounting department to formulate and drive wider tax strategy, communicate current and future business plans, obtain cross-functional tax subject matter input and ensure coordination of cross-functional tax solutions.  This position involves compliance, advisory planning, real time coordination and communication of various tax-related projects, including leading on engagements and negotiations with external advisors, government bodies, tax authorities and auditors.  This position reports to the Sr. Manager of Tax.  

What you'll be doing:

  • Reporting and Compliance
  • Create and embed quarterly international income tax provisions as part of the FIN18 process and overall ASC 740 process for the overall global tax provision.
  • Contribute to the tax footnote disclosures and technical memos for external audit review on a quarterly basis.
  • Partner with service provider and internal technical accounting team members to complete quarterly and annual tax provision process.
  • Manage all income tax tax reporting and compliance filings.
  • Participate in the SOX documentation process (add detail)
  • Manage income tax rollforward process
  • Advise on the tax consequences of businesses and operating strategies such as expansion into new markets 
  • Provide support with Udemy’s quarterly effective tax rate, tax forecasts close process, and annual U.S. international tax compliance requirements
  • Tax modeling concerning U.S. international tax matters (GILTI, FDII, FTC, BEAT, etc.) and foreign tax matters (CIT, VAT, WHT)
  • Support transfer pricing planning and implementation
  • Deep knowledge of operational workarounds and alternatives in a startup environment

  • Accounting
  • Responsible for monthly accrual and reconciliation of income tax accounts
  • 3rd party advisors
  • Partner and manage third party international advisors on indirect tax related projects and inquiries

We're excited about you because you'll have:

  • Undergraduate degree in accounting with a concentration ASC 740
  • 6-10 years of tax experience in a combination of public accounting and industry positions, start-up company experience ideal
  • CPA preferred
  • Knowledge of global income tax filings
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to independently think through business situations and identify tax issues and relevant solutions
  • Ability to partner with internal business units and outside advisors
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects to ensure all reporting deadlines are met
  • Exercise own judgment and use critical thinking skills to anticipate downstream effects and future implications
