Velodyne LiDAR is the world’s leader in real-time 3D LiDAR sensors for applications ranging from autonomous driving, high-resolution mapping and robotic perception to drone surveying/navigation and providing perimeter sercurity/surveillance.  The company serves many different industries including automotive, industrial and emerging spaces like virtual reality.

We are looking for a Technical Support Engineer located in Japan to provide our customers enterprise-level assistance. You will diagnose and troubleshoot software and hardware problems and help our customers deploy Velodyne LiDAR to their products (e.g. self-driving cars, robots, UAVs, etc).  Our customers will rely on you to provide timely and accurate solutions to their technical problems. you also will help our sales associates to visit our potential customer and answer their technical questions. To be qualified for this role, you should hold a degree in a relevant field (Computer Science, Optical Engineering, Software Engineering), and Linux, ROS, Zemax, CAD, and PCL is a plus.   • Research and identify solutions to software and hardware issues
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot technical issues, including LiDAR installation and application
  • Ask customers targeted questions to quickly understand the root of the problem
  • Track LiDAR-related system issues through to resolution, within agreed time limits
  • Talk clients through a series of actions, either via phone, email or chat, until they’ve solved a technical issue
  • Properly escalate unresolved issues to appropriate internal teams (e.g. Engineering)
  • Provide prompt and accurate feedback to customers
  • Follow up with clients to ensure their LiDAR-related systems are fully functional after troubleshooting
  • Prepare accurate and timely reports
  • Document technical knowledge in the form of notes and manuals
  • Maintain jovial relationships with clients
  • Teamwork with sales team to expand market in Japan


Required Skills and Experience:

  • Good understanding of LiDAR device and point cloud processing
  • Proven work experience as a Technical Engineer
  • Experience with Linux operating system (e.g. Ubuntu, Red Hat, etc.)
  • Good understanding of TCP/IP protocol
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot GPS system
  • Familiarity with hardware and optical system troubleshooting and signal analysis.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • Ability to provide step-by-step technical help, both written and verbal
  • English communication skill is required
