New Payment Flows (NPF) division’s charter is to capture new sources of money movement through card and non-card flows, including Visa Business Solutions, Government Solutions and Visa Direct which presents an enormous growth opportunity. Our team brings payment solutions and associated services to clients around the globe.  Our global clients and partners deploy our solutions to serve the needs of Small Businesses, Middle Market Clients, Large Corporate Clients, Multi Nationals and Governments. 

The Visa Business Solutions (VBS) and Visa Government Solutions (VGS) team is a world-class technology organization experiencing tremendous, double-digit growth as we expand products into new payment flows and continue to grow our core card solutions. This is an incredibly exciting team to join as we expand globally.

We’re seeking a Sr. Director of Data Engineering in the New Payment Flows organization to be the leader of Commercial Data solutions globally with a team of 70+ engineers building and managing Visa’s technology capabilities for its global commercial payment solutions data ecosystem. This individual will operate as a trusted advisor and strategic thought partner to the technology leadership team and our business stakeholders driving and delivering on key initiatives E2E across multiple product lines across Data delivery, analytics/insights, full stack and Webservices globally.

The successful candidate will be comfortable navigating challenging forces in the dynamic payments space and working in a fast-paced environment while implementing strategies and processes that enable the organization to innovate and grow.

Some of the key responsibilities include:

  • Build, Lead and manage the Commercial Data Services teams and portfolio comprising of the central Commercial Data Lake, Data pipeline and products supporting 350+ Issuers/processors and 350K+ corporates globally

  • Make strategic decisions across technology, architecture, and people to enable and build the next gen commercial data platform and products with modernized data management, governance and Analytics capabilities

  • Build Data Quality and Observability platform using modern technologies to understand Data usage, patterns, Improve data quality/reliability

  • Adopt ML/AI technologies to build Commercial insights to generate new business opportunities and revenue at the same time enable our clients to run make data driven business decision and scale their businesses successfully

  • Own and drive the end-to-end development efforts delivering high quality, scalable innovative solutions that meet the Business goals and vision enabling a great client experience

  • Drive strong client focus mindset within the team.

  • Collaborate with Business teams to ensure completeness and common understanding of product vision, roadmap & requirements.

  • Align with architects and senior technologists on proper architecture and design.

  • Lead agile engineering teams to deliver end-to-end technical solutions that exceed our client expectations.

  • Drive and deliver on the Infra program focusing on Engineering practices and efficiency with defined measurable KPIs

  • Manage and automate engineering and operations, including post implementation support.

  • Mentor and build world-class high performing global engineering teams.

  • Handle routine daily activities such as coordination, coaching, mentoring, recruiting, budgeting, planning, delivery, quality, partner relationships, performance metrics, operations, efficiency, service level management, etc.

  • Think strategically: See patterns and relationships in information
    and events, clarify and simplify complex information, anticipate trends and
    possibilities that may lead to new business opportunities, consistently think
    and act ahead of the curve, anticipate and effectively respond with urgency
    to immediate opportunities, executes plans vigorously and with flexibility,
    operate proactively, identify and address long-term opportunities

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both home and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office three days a week, Monday (Sunday in some countries where Sunday is the start of the week) and Wednesdays. Wednesdays are designated as in-office collaboration days. The third day in the office will be decided based on team needs and determined in partnership with senior leadership. 


Basic Qualifications:

12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 10 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters/MBA /JD/MD), or a minimum of 5 years of work experience with a PhD

Preferred Qualifications:

15 or more years of experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 12 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, or MD), PhD with 9+ years of experience

• Advanced degree in a technical field such as computer science and computer engineering with 20+ years of relevant industry experience
• 10+ years of experience managing and leading engineering teams
• 10+ years of hands-on experience with big data open source technologies and software development skills
• Proven experience leading the development of highly available enterprise level applications and platforms utilizing technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, Scala, Java, ML/AI, Spring, JavaScript, HTTP, JSON, Rest, XML, relational databases, etc.
• Outstanding verbal, written, presentation, facilitation, and interaction skills, along with effective communication (both written and verbal) skills and the ability to present complex ideas in a clear,
• Strong at technical goal setting for a project with actionable success metrics. Experience with measuring a service from user experience perspective, setting and tracking to SLAs and KPIs
• Ability to represent technical and business issues and solutions to multiple levels internally and externally to support organizational plans
• Ability to work in a complex organization to determine business and customer needs, providing the best solution to meet those needs
• Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Payment industry experience is a plus

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.
