The Data and AI Platform is part of the Visa's technology organization. The division is responsible for maintaining Visa's data assets and provides value added products and services to drive innovation for our partners and clients, within Visa and globally. The Data and AI Platform provides systems and services to make data secure, high quality, rich, fast, and easy to use, therefore enabling Visa with the ability to leverage its data asset in an effective and timely manner to maximize technology/business development and differentiate Visa from others in the payment industry.

Data and AI Platform – Platform as a Service development team supports large scale shared clusters in Visa. You will be a part of customer success team driving customer adoption, satisfaction, and support stability of the services.

As a Staff Data Engineer, you will help application teams design, enhance, and build solutions dealing with batch and real-time data in a fast-paced environment. You will work with user and application teams communities across Visa. You will be supporting a wide variety of technologies in one of the largest financial data platform in the world.

The ideal candidate has strong technical background and have a good written and verbal communication skills. An individual we look for has production experience handling customer incidents, changes and working directly into production, is passionate about performance, scalability, and maintainability, cares about quality of services supported, and loves to learn new technologies.

  • Effective, polished interaction with customer to collect information quickly, explain customer responsibilities in resolving issue, communicate next steps and status, and inspire confidence
  • Shown troubleshooting skills
  • Handle thousands of active users and hundreds of Application teams using big data services
  • Handling and supporting large scale production big data deployments
  • Follows established customer success guidelines and support structure
  • Cross-team collaboration, build and handle relationships with the customer teams, the user community, architects, and engineering teams
  • Effective Root cause analysis of major production incidents and developing learning documentation
  • Hands-on Dev-ops roles and chipping in to all areas of Big Data Customer success
  • On a typical day, a Support Engineer will be primarily responsible for solving customer's cases through a variety of customer contact channels which include telephone, email, and web/live chat
  • You will apply sophisticated troubleshooting techniques to provide tailored solutions for our customers and drive customer interactions by thoughtfully working with customers to dive deep into the root cause of an issue

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office two days a week, Tuesdays and Wednesdays with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% of the time based on business needs.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 6 years of work experience with a bachelor’s degree or 5 years with a master’s in computer science or related field
  • Hands on Experience in Hadoop, Hive, Spark, Kafka is a must.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 6 years of work experience in maintaining, optimization, issue resolution of Big Data large scale clusters, supporting Business users and Batch process
  • Excellent Shell, Python programming skills for automation requirement for repetitive dev-ops tasks
  • Strong Debugging skills in Java, Scala and Hive or Spark SQL programming languages
  • Advanced experience in Apache Hadoop, Apache Spark, Apache Hive, and Presto
  • Deployment experience with Hadoop distributions open source
  • Advanced experience with System Administration with Linux (RHEL/CentOS) including Microsoft Active Directory, and LDAP integration
  • Experience with troubleshooting -Kerberos Authentication problems
  • Experience with Network troubleshooting
  • Experience with RDBMS and NoSQL databases like MySQL, HBase is a plus
  • Experience in container technology like Kubernetes is a plus
  • Experience on Hortonworks distribution or Open Source preferred
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
