The Visa Garage is a unique entity at Visa, responsible for the exploration, incubation and launch of new business ventures. We operate independently to rapidly build, test, iterate, and scale ventures quickly.  We are a team of entrepreneurs, designers, engineers, product developers and creators looking to build ambitious new ventures.

The Visa Garage Product Manager is a versatile role in The Visa Garage able to lead a variety of product development efforts including uncovering intangible attitudes, behaviors, and motivations that drive people’s choices and desires, to developing impactful product concepts and platforms that can scale. You will work collaboratively with lean teams composed of Entrepreneurs in Residence, Designers, Researchers, and full-stack developers in an entrepreneurial environment. This position is best suited for a flexible, action-oriented person who is self-driven and thrives in ambiguous settings.

You will be responsible for the following as a product coach, player/coach or individual contributor as defined by the Garage & Entrepreneur in Residence.

New Venture Product Development

  • Lead collaborative product strategy, design and development sprints to achieve goals at milestones set forth by the venture team, Garage Investment Committee and Venture Council.

  • Lead the product perspective on relevance to Visa, business modeling/case/reason to invest. 

  • Think holistically about the design of a new offering and the implications related to both the customer’s experience as well as the venture’s ability to implement and scale. 

  • Apply an informed perspective on how to leverage leading edge technologies to build products that will scale while achieving economies of scale in the next 5-10 years

  • Practice an agile approach to planning, problem solving, prioritization and development, rapidly prototyping at low fidelity whenever feasible to accelerate knowledge development

  • Use divergent design thinking techniques for the conceptual development of products, services and/or physical connected form-factors

  • Converge innovative ideas to a set of digital and tangible products, services and/or physical connected form-factors in partnership with venture architects, product managers and engineering

  • Contribute requirements (user stories) informed by deliverables from design, research, architecture and development teams

  • Partner with engineering to ensure requirements & user interfaces are properly implemented and meet architectural guidelines.

  • Assist the Entrepreneur in Residence to identify talent needs and job descriptions to fill out high performing teams that will optimize the venture for success.

Product Leadership

  • Lead the delivery of a range of projects that could vary based on user, problem/opportunity, go to market strategy or business vertical.

  • Lead and inspire large and diverse teams during strategy, research, design and development sprints, providing clear vision, direction, and allocating roles based on skills, strengths and needs.

  • Provide guidance and oversight for all team members assigned on project (e.g, Analyst & Manager) assigning specific tasks, defining timeline, and reviewing deliverables.

  • Coordinate support and inputs required from Design, Research, Engineering, Corporate Development, Legal, Privacy, Risk, Marketing & Compliance as required for the venture & the garage.

  • Research, explore, and understand the market and technical landscape to adopt the latest technologies and anticipate emergent needs.

  • Coordinate with account management teams when required to obtain support/feedback/partnership from existing clients

  • Use exceptional project management, facilitation and leadership skills to inspire the joint Visa + stakeholder / partner team to deliver their best.

  • Work with designers + design technologist to make things tangible/real versus theoretical when relevant to validate hypothesis.

  • Create and maintain momentum, helping teams move forward swiftly and with rigor, a learning mindset and a bias toward progress over perfection

Voice of the Customer and Data Driven decision-making

  • Identify new opportunities based on customer insights, competitive research, and industry trends

  • Conceive, design and develop products through the customers eyes and driven by human centered qualitative and quantitative research

  • Design, develop and guide ethnographic research sprints to understand customer behaviors, pain points, needs and aspirations and conduct quantitative research investigations that help strategically frame, validate or challenge other forms of research

  • Bring your product to life through personas, customer journeys, insight-opportunity frameworks, system maps, stories, and scenarios

Communication and reporting

  • Articulate the possibility, viability and feasibility of recommendations.  This includes crafting the story of how the product recommendation fits into a company’s overall strategy, the underlying business model, and any implementation risks.

  • Contribute unique ideas within multidisciplinary workshops, meetings and immersion sessions and bring them to life through story-telling skills

  • Communicate product concepts using techniques including service blueprints, customer journeys, design principles as well as business models and financial forecasts

  • Translates strategy into a product roadmap to deliver measurable outcomes

  • Make data-backed decisions and defining high quality success metrics

  • Define, monitor and report on venture specific OKRs

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office two days a week, Tuesdays and Wednesdays with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% of the time based on business needs.

Basic Qualifications:
12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 10 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters/MBA /JD/MD), or a minimum of 5 years of work experience with a PhD

Preferred Qualifications: 
• 10+ years of experience in new product design and development including creating new market categories
• Payments industry/fintechs/digital tech experience or similar relevant experience a plus
• Dream big with a bold, enduring, inspiring product vision and strategy — yet delivers the short and long
• Proven record of launching and scaling new products including managing day-to-day technical and design direction.
• Passion for building products that will bridge the gap between the FinTech space today and the world of tomorrow
• Experience with evaluating the TAM & SAM for each business opportunity
• Understand markets, competition, and user requirements in depth.
• Capable to translate technical product requirements into job descriptions for engineering, architect and technical analyst job types
• Knowledgeable of web and mobile application capabilities, server-side capabilities and infrastructure dependencies (experience with cloud built and hosted is a plus)
• Experience with software architectural principles, evaluating architecture to support the products functional & non-functional requirements and conducting software build/buy analysis
• Ability to communicate the process, approach, and impact of your product concept in verbal and visual presentation
• Ability to absorb and process large amounts of information and synthesize into key insights
• Demonstrable ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, is able to ruthlessly prioritize and identify the most important item to focus on
• High aptitude to learn quickly, assimilate to new teams and projects, and work well under pressure with appropriate attention to detail
• Organized and comfortable creating and executing workplans
• Strong EQ and presence, and ability to collaborate cross-functionally with people from various teams and various backgrounds
• Must be self-motivated, have a bias-to-action, and be comfortable with ambiguity
• Enthusiastic work ethic and able to solve problems with balance of independence and well-solicited input
• Ability to inspire and influence those around you, even without direct management responsibility, proven success influencing senior stakeholders, and decision makers
• Intellectual curiosity a must, payments or technology industry knowledge and cross-border transaction experience a significant plus
