Director of DevOps

As the Director of DevOps at Womply you will help us continue to grow and shape our Infrastructure and Information Security function. You will make the tooling and implementation for our infrastructure more flexible and powerful, so that we can express more complicated and interesting ideas in the form of computing resources as our business grows. Using your deep technical expertise and leadership in the areas of systems architecture, incident response, and security monitoring, you will be a vital part of Womply’s technical and leadership team.

What you get to do every day:

  • Define new ways to leverage Womply’s available technology using AWS as a managed-infrastructure platform that allows for a strong focus on development, scalability and capacity planning
  • Prioritize tasks for DevOps team ensuring 24x7 coverage for all systems, infrastructure and incident response functions
  • Manage a security strategy and budget that is forward-thinking, creating an InfoSec policy focused on requirements for both internal and customer data, refining security solutions in-line with risk
  • If there are outages using the data from same to assure prompt remediation and to determine if it’s a repeatable issue
  • Educate internal stakeholders on limitations that may exist for the Infrastructure side of things, explaining risks and challenges associated with changes as technology shifts to meet the needs of the business
  • Provide technical direction and manage DevOps resources on technical projects, mentoring team members and guiding and resolving any problems as they arise
  • Take a pro-active stance to regular issues coming in from other teams and determining needs for upcoming releases and projects
  • Manage costs and expenditures for microservices while setting up service infrastructure as the frequency of service generation increases
  • Craft clear documentation on policies and processes leaning towards a self-provisioning model for service requirements including data stores and repositories
  • Work with 3rd party suppliers, auditors and external technical partners to handle their security requests operating specific controls respective to our compliance obligations
  • Take a critical view towards our current security stance and alter as appropriate, while maintaining our security maturity
  • Work with a mixture of Puppet, home-grown tooling written in Python, and AWS-based products, occasionally writing code, but when necessary use what’s out there by researching best practices
  • Align with other Engineering resources to support the needs of the business
  • Refine our AWS security reference architecture
  • Lead the Triage, investigation, tracking, and resolution of incidents identifying and fixing security vulnerabilities that come to light
  • Manage security vendors and VARs relationships
  • Execute security architecture reviews and risk assessments, methodically deducing security root causes from noise

 

What you bring to the role: 

  • BS or equivalent experience and a MINIMUM of 8+ years of experience in a security role including 4+ years in a leadership position where you manage others to meet business deliverables
  • Hands-on Leadership of DevOps teams
  • Hands-on experience leading and driving a DevOps and/or InfoSec team in a SaaS, Software or Cloud environment, including AWS
  • Strong coding skills in Ruby or Python and knowledge of Puppet required
  • Good familiarity with configuration management tools: Jenkins, Bamboo, CircleCI or other
  • Exposure to Amazon AWS - EC2, ECS, ELB, IAM, RDS, S3
  • Experience with Hashicorp Terraforms
  • A strong understanding of how to apply security models to infrastructure having experience as a defining partner in building out this function previously
  • Solid AWS experience in an Infrastructure as a Service (IAAS) Environment
  • Good knowledge of Postgres, Redshift, and / or MySQL
  • Experience with Cassandra or some other distributed data store
  • Familiarity with Spark, Hadoop, AWS EMR
  • Exposure and familiarity with the PCI DSS spec and how to implement it
  • Able to maintain good documentation with the understanding of its importance in your work
  • Experience with architecting Security solutions in a Cloud environment, including AWS
  • Solid understanding of security technologies including IDS/IPS systems, firewalls, SIEM, pen testing and vulnerability scanning tools
  • Deep understanding of network and application security threats, attack techniques, and mitigation
  • Knowledge of networking protocols including IEEE 802.1q, LACP, MST, VRRP, OSPF, BGP and Internet networking services and protocols including HTTP, SSL, SMTP
  • Strong organizational skills and an entrepreneurial drive with a history of hiring and developing high-performing teams
  • A customer-focused, responsive, and transparent attitude with a demonstrated high integrity and empathy to others
  • Proven experience managing and operating multiple security programs, projects, and initiatives
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced startup culture where there is ambiguity and constant change
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and a strong sense of diplomacy in all interactions, a self-starter who can gain support from a variety of stakeholders
