Software Engineer - Traffic Quality

Yelp’s Trust & Safety team identifies and neutralizes the biggest threats to customers' trust in Yelp. As a Traffic Quality engineer, you will build models that detect abuse across all of Yelp's traffic and work with teams across the company to keep malicious traffic from affecting their data. Our engineers are eager to dive into traffic data, looking for clues that lead us to spam, fraud, bots, and scrapers. Tenacity is a must: we're searching for adversaries that are trying to hide from us.

We're continually implementing new signals to detect ever-evolving abuse. We build infrastructure to meet the challenge of detecting abuse in realtime in Yelp's massive amount of traffic data. We are the defenders of Yelp's consumers, making Yelp a trusted place to connect real consumers with great local businesses.

What You Will Do:

  • Build systems to extract features from terabytes of traffic data.
  • Dive deep into data to find clues that traffic is fraudulent.
  • Balance precision and recall in the ambiguous world of bot detection.
  • Work with teams across the company and product management to prevent harm from bad traffic.

We Are Looking For:

  • 2+ years of relevant industry experience working in adversary detection (Fraud, Spam, Traffic Quality, or Security).
  • Comfort analyzing data to make decisions.
  • Experience building large scale real-time distributed systems.
  • Deep understanding of the programing languages and systems that you've worked on.
  • A love for writing beautiful code and mastery of at least one programming language (Python, Java, or C++).
  • Comfort in running services or batches in a Unix environment.
  • Minimum BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Math, or related degree.A love for delighting Yelp’s users with experiences they shouldn’t live without.
