Software Engineer - Security

Yelp, London, UK

Connecting people with great local businesses

Yelp is looking for security engineers to keep us safe and sane as we move into a cloud-first world of infrastructure and security systems. It's an opportunity to have tremendous impact and broad scope by building the next generation of detection and response capabilities for Yelp’s Security team.

As a Security software engineer, you'll help build systems and tools to keep Yelp’s Security team one step ahead of the bad guys. You'll collaborate with core infrastructure teams to adapt shared infrastructure to the needs of the Security team. You’ll also work on tooling and monitoring systems to enable signal collection and processing at massive scale.

What You Will Do:

  • Develop libraries used across multiple Yelp apps for secure communication and data storage
  • Pair with infrastructure teams to develop solutions suitable for use across the entirety of Yelp’s production environment, while serving as a champion of security best practices
  • Participate in incident response and forensics collection
  • Collaborate with other teams in London and San Francisco

What We Are Looking For:

  • While previous application security experience is a plus, we're looking for strong software generalists first, with an interest in security at scale
  • Several years of software engineering experience
  • BS or MS in Computer Science or Engineering, or equivalent experience
  • Experience with languages like Python, Java, and Scala
  • Experience working and developing software in a Linux environment
  • Experience with AWS and SOA

What We Offer:

  • Full responsibility for projects from day one, an awesome team, and a dynamic work environment
  • Competitive salary with equity in the company, a pension scheme, and an optional employee stock purchase program
  • 25 days paid holiday initially, rising to 29 with service
  • Private health insurance, including dental and vision
  • Flexible working hours and meeting-free Thursdays
  • Regular 3-day Hackathons and weekly learning groups, always with interesting topics
  • Opportunities to participate in events and conferences throughout Europe and the US
  • Public transportation season ticket loan and £50 per month toward any exercise of your choice
  • Monthly personal development allowance
  • Central location, a fully stocked kitchen, adjustable sitting/standing desks, quarterly offsites, locally roasted coffee, happy hours, and more!
