Yelp has a vast amount and variety of data and large communities of both consumers and producers of that data. From the initial point at which data is created to the end point where it is used in reports, metric definitions, and product development, good governance practices are required to ensure trust, understanding, and quality of Yelp data products. We’re looking for a passionate, experienced Data Governance practitioner to join our team to develop and advance the Data Governance discipline here at Yelp.

As a Senior Data Governance Analyst, you’ll have direct influence on the direction and development of our Data Governance program by working closely with a variety of stakeholders at multiple levels to drive the roadmap and execution of Yelp’s Data Governance strategy. Through collaboration with business and technical partners, you’ll form data policies and standards, develop processes for data management and documentation, establish data lineage across diverse systems and assets, create and drive adoption for stewardship and working councils, and advocate for the value of good Data Governance practices across Yelp.

Where You Come In:

  • Build close relationships with business, product, engineering, and security partners, build roadmaps and define requirements for Data Governance projects.
  • Develop, improve, and drive adoption of Data Governance processes, policies, and standards throughout Yelp.
  • Establish and lead Data Governance working groups for data and metrics documentation, stewardship, quality, and data process improvement.
  • Develop data and analytics certification programs and drive adoption of source of truth data sets and reports across business and technical communities.
  • Provide leadership in solving data issues and improve metadata management, knowledge sharing, and quality for Yelp data assets.
  • Partner with engineers to build out automated workflows, integrations, lineage, and other features for Yelp’s Data Governance platform.
  • Educate, train, and support Yelp’s data community on Data Governance best practices, standards, and platforms and show impact on business decision-making through good governance practices.

What it Takes to Succeed:

  • 5+ years of experience in stakeholder management as well as Data Governance, data management, or data operations.
  • Thorough Data Governance knowledge and experience creating and managing business glossaries, data catalogs, and data lineage and implementing data access, change management, and other governance processes.
  • Excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills and proven ability to effectively articulate business requirements and goals.
  • Working experience with Data Governance platforms. Collibra preferred.
  • Experience with project management methodologies. Agile preferred.
  • Experience working with software engineers in translating business needs into technical language and ensuring effective testing and solution delivery.
  • Working experience using SQL and at least one programming or scripting language preferred.
