Connecting people with great local businesses

Yelp is a website and mobile app that makes it easy for users to connect with awesome local businesses. Founded in July 2004, Yelp has taken root in countries across the globe, making it the leading local guide for real word-of-mouth on everything from boutiques and mechanics to restaurants and dentists. All of this is made possible by our group of talented engineers, who come from diverse technical backgrounds and value digital craftsmanship, open source, and creative problem solving.

Here in Hamburg, we're passionate about developing valuable and innovative business-owner features. Whether we’re building from the ground up, iterating, or testing, our goal is to give every business the opportunity to make an impact on their community.

What We Are Looking For:

  • Intrepid students who wish to develop real projects for Yelp and help connect people with great local businesses
  • Experience with at least one modern programming language
  • Successful completion of software projects in previous internships, open source, or academic environments
  • Eagerness to learn about professional best practices, write clean and efficient code, and bring in new ideas

How You’ll Have an Impact:

  • Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other engineering teams
  • Develop cool and useful features for our millions of business owners in the Yelp community
  • Work on a real project taken straight from the team’s roadmap. Previous examples: Giving business owners the possibility to create and manage multiple accounts; integrating machine translation of reviews within the iOS app; building the Javascript front end for our photo categorization system
  • Share your findings and results in an office-wide presentation at the end of your internship

What We Offer:

  • A flexible, full-time internship; start in September 2018 or later, we only ask for a minimum of three months
  • Fair compensation, reimbursement of your round-trip flight, and help with relocation
  • A fun yet professional atmosphere on a diverse team
  • Frequent check-ins with your manager and mentor, who will coach you throughout your professional development and help you grow your engineer self
  • Flexible working hours and meeting-free Thursdays
  • Regular hackathons and learning groups
  • Free snacks, drinks, and more!
Sound like a dream? Apply today and make it your reality!
