The NYC Startup Odyssey

New York City, NY

Startup Odyssey

What is it?

Two days in New York City dedicated to startups, their cultures, and careers. (Travel scholarships available - see FAQ below.)

* Participating students will also have the ability to attend NYC Uncubed at no additional cost. But please note that additional travel funds (if applicable) will not be available for this.

Through the Startup Odyssey, students have met the teams behind BuzzFeed, Spotify, IBM Watson, Vimeo, Squarespace, Rent The Runway, SeatGeek, ZocDoc, Knewton, and more!

Accepted students will have countless opportunities to...

1) Speak with founders, engineers, data scientists, product managers, recruiters, & more
2) Learn what it's like to work at a startup (the excitement & the challenges)
3) Get the inside scoop on companies' products & services
4) Discuss internship & full-time job opportunities

This program is open to 100 Computer Science & Engineeering students (or related majors), reviewed and selected by application through this website.

See FAQ below for details about travel scholarships.

Startup Tours

The centerpiece of the Startup Odyssey, Startup Tours bring students behind the scenes at startups of all sizes and industries. A list of companies that past tours have visited is below.

You'll sit down with team members ranging from founders (wherever possible) to CTOs and VPs of Engineering, devs at all levels, recruiters, product managers, and more to discuss their day-to-day roles, the real-world problems they're solving, and the products and services they're building.

You'll also get a better sense of what these companies look for in interns and employees, what roles they're hiring for, and have time to ask questions.

Key Takeaways:

* You'll gain exposure to companies, cultures, and professional opportunities (internships, co-ops, jobs, networking) that you may not previously have been aware of, or usually wouldn't have direct access to.
* You'll gain more detailed insight into NYC's thriving startup space and companies within it than is possible through on-campus informational sessions.

In the event you reserve your spot but are unable to attend, or cancel within two weeks of the program, your deposit will be kept to cover a portion of the costs incurred.

Please Note

1) Even if you're not yet sure about your schedule for April 2016, job/internship status for Summer/Fall 2016, or if you'll qualify, you should still apply.
2) Even if you're not yet sure about financials if travel and lodging are required, you should still apply. It is possible that through additional sponsors and university support (SEE BELOW), the amount you receive could eliminate most or all costs.
3) Speak with your academic department, advisor, or relevant student organizations - we have found that some can provide additional financial assistance.
4) Travel scholarships are issued following attendance on both days of this program (April 7 & 8, 2016), submission to Uncubed of any necessary documentation (flight or bus itinerary, scanned train tickets, gas receipts, etc.), and completion of a post-program survey.
