14 of Our Favorite Employer Value Propositions

Your employer value proposition, or EVP, is the answer to the questions: Why should someone want to work at your company? What’s in it for them?

Effective EVPs don’t have to be long. We like the one-sentence version of Patagonia’s EVP: We’re in business to save our home planet, and we’re hiring. And this one from Nike: Move the world.

They can take on radically different tones. The running shoe company On strikes a powerful, defiant, confident tone, while Pattern Brands’ EVP is a warm letter to potential employees.

There’s no formula for writing an EVP. It may help to have short and long versions, or it may help to break it into parts, use bullet points, or just distill it into a sentence or two.

Here are some of our favorite MVPs of EVPs, in no particular order.

Not sure about EVPs? Find out whether your company needs one.

We hire based on the potential we see in people, so here, you’ll be trusted to dive right in, take the lead, use your initiative, and build billion-dollar brands that help make everyday activities easier and make the world a better place. And it’s not just about what you’ll do, but how you’ll feel: welcomed, valued, purposeful, challenged, heard, and inspired.

Because, as Bill Bowerman—Nike’s co-founder and legendary coach—once said, “If you have a body, you are an athlete.” Every day, we are demanding a better future for ourselves, our athletes, and our communities. 13. Headway

Our core values bring Headway’s mission to life

  • Think future first
We think big, even when the task feels small. We seek opportunities to reimagine, and take time to build for the future.

  • Act like a Headway owner
We all pitch in with ideas to improve the products we build and the ways we operate, even when they’re outside of our roles. We collaborate to make Headway as a whole the best it can be.

  • The first time is always handmade
We believe that building amazing products means starting by doing things that don’t scale. We roll up our sleeves, get creative, and engage deeply with the people we are building for.

  • Be relationship-obsessed
We care deeply about our relationships with those who make Headway what it is: our providers, patients, payers, and each other.

  • Invest in yourself to invest in our mission
We take the time to invest in our own health and wellness, and support each other in doing so. It’s how we bring our best selves to work, and it’s essential to our mission.

14.
XPO

Hi! Uncubed here: Logistics company XPO takes an uncommon approach to its EVP, offering a unique proposition for each employment segment. What a smart move to appeal to different types of employees individually. Because XPO organizes its propositions visually, we’ll drop the screenshot here.

Emily McCrary-Ruiz-Esparza writes about workplace culture, DEI, and hiring. Her work has appeared in Fast Company, From Day One, and InHerSight, among others.
